1. The Chemistry of Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic Water for Injection contains 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. This preservative inhibits bacterial replication, permitting multiple needle punctures across a 28-day window when refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C.
2. When to Utilize Physiological PBS
For sensitive cell-viability assays or electrophysiological investigations where benzyl alcohol could modulate receptor responses or induce cytotoxicity, sterile endotoxin-free Phosphate-Buffered Saline (PBS, pH 7.4) should be selected as the primary diluent.
3. Prevention of Shearing Forces
Peptide tertiary configurations can be disrupted by excessive physical agitation. Always run liquid gently down the vial glass wall and swirl with gentle orbital motion; never vortex or shake violently.
